Genrefying Fiction, Part 1.2

OK, here we go! We received our colored transparent label protectors today and pulled a few books to see how they will work. I fear some of the colors are too dark....but in the full plan I need more than just a few colors. So, these will have to work. We're starting with Historical Fiction and working our way down the shelves labeling what looks obvious. We'll continue with each of our five genres (leaving Realistic Fiction with no colored label for now). More later as we make progress!

At SHS, we used color coded dots.

Dots was our first thought, but then we'd also have to put on a label protector (dots have fallen off in the past without a protector). The colored label protector means one less step and looks like it will be less expensive in the long run. I've already run into a quandary! Octavian Nothing: historical fiction or science fiction! Argh!

And we've already changed our plan. We're looking at each book on the shelf with a laptop open to the OPAC. Labeling the 5 genres (Science Fiction, Historical Fiction, Fantasy, Horror, Sports) and then we'll go back through Realistic Fiction (everything else) to split those more....but that will be next year. This is slow going!
